In the framework of the EC-RTN network
The quantum structure
of spacetime and the geometric nature of fundamental
interactions
, a workshop, jointly organized by the
Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (NORDITA)
and the Niels Bohr Institute (NBI), took place in
Copenhagen, from September 15 to September 20 (press
release).
It was the third workshop organized by our RTN network; the previous venues took place in Corfu' (2001) and Leuven (2002).
There will be proceedings of the workshop, to appear in a special issue of Classical and Quantum Gravity. Deadline for submission: December 15th, 2003.
The press release for the workshop can be found here, and media exposure of the workshop is listed here. Speeches at the town hall reception offered by the municipality of Copenhagen, by Hellen Hedemann (first deputy chairman of the City of Copenhagen), Prof. Andrew Jackson (director of NBI) and Prof. Peter Minnhagen (director of NORDITA).
Every day the activity started with a review talk of 1h 30m, introducing an important subject of current research in our area. The rest of the morning and the first part of the afternoon were devoted to research communications of 30m, organized as much as possible in such a way to be related to the theme set day by day by the review talks. At the end of each day there were discussion sessions, mainly focussing on the topics discussed in the morning review talk.
The workshop, beside being an occasion of exchange of recent research results, aimed to be formative for Ph.D students near the end of their Ph. D or young post-docs.
See this page for the detailed program (the transparencies of the review speakers are now available; just click on their names).
The review speakers were:
Expanding and Time Dependent Universes in String Theory
String Compactification with Fluxes
Intersecting Brane Worlds - a Path to the Standard Model?
Recent Developments concerning Tachyon Condensation
The Duality between IIB String Theory on PP-wave and N=4 SYM: a Status Report
Non-perturbative Results from Perturbative Field Theory
The workshop took place in the Auditorium of the Rockefeller Centre, and was organized by the High Energy Physics groups of NORDITA and NBI.
