Program of the Workshop

Dates

The RTN Copenhagen Workshop, organized in the framework of the EC-TMR network The quantum structure of spacetime and the geometric nature of fundamental interactions, took place in Copenhagen from September 15 (Monday) to September 20 (Saturday) 2003.

Review Talks

There were 6 review talks, of 1h 30m each, followed by a number of research communications of 30m, organized as much as possible in such a way that they are related to the theme set day by day by the review talks.

The review speakers were:

• Dieter Luest (Humboldt U., Berlin), on Intersecting Brane Worlds - a Path to the Standard Model?
  
• Shiraz Minwalla (Harvard, Boston), on Recent Developments concerning Tachyon Condensation
  
• Rodolfo Russo (ENS, Paris), on The Duality between IIB String Theory on PP-wave and N=4 SYM: a Status Report
  
• Daniela Zanon (Universita' degli studi di Milano), on Non-perturbative Results from Perturbative Field Theory
  

Schedule

• All lectures were given in the Rockefeller Auditorium which is located at Juliane Maries Vej 30.

Discussion Sessions

At the end of each day there was a discussion session.

Corresponding to the six different topics six panels were organized each consisting of 3-5 persons. Each panel was assigned one of the six main topics of the conference and was responsible for directing the corresponding discussion session. This involved bringing up questions or comments made by the conference participants during the day.

The six panels were composed as follows:

1. Review speaker: Rodolfo Russo, "The Duality between IIB String Theory on PP-wave and N=4 SYM: a Status Report". Panel members: Kim, Sieg, Tanzini.

2. Review speaker: Vijay Balasubramanian "Expanding and Time Dependent Universes in String Theory". Panel members: Drukker, Kappeli, Nakamura.

3. Review speaker: Dieter Luest, "Intersecting Brane Worlds - a Path to the Standard Model?". Panel members: Bakas, Gmeiner, Sannino.

4. Review speaker: Daniela Zanon, "Non-perturbative Results from Perturbative Field Theory". Panel members: Casero, Cirafici, Mazzucato, Theisen, Trincherini.

5. Review speaker: Gianguido Dall'Agata, "String Compactification with Fluxes". Panel members: Gheerardyn, Trapletti, Trigiante.

6. Review speakes: Shiraz Minwalla, "Recent Developments concerning Tachyon Condensation". Panel members: Janik, Kappeli, Nakamura, Pesando.

Social events

• On Monday Sep 15 there was a Welcome Reception. This took place at 18:30 in the canteen of NORDITA and NBI, where light appetizers and beverages were served.
• On Tuesday Sep 16 at 18:00 there was a Special Reception in the Copenhagen Town Hall at Raadhuspladsen offered by the Mayor and the municipality of Copenhagen.
• On Thursday Sep 18 at 19:00 the Social Dinner took place. This was at Restaurant Spisehuset, located in the centre of Copenhagen, in Magstræde 12-14.
• On Friday Sep 19 at 18:30 there was the soccer match. This took place in Faelledparken, next to the stadium where the national team usually plays. The two teams were Fluxes and Branes. After a terrible two hours fight, the final result turned out 5-4 for the Fluxes team.
