Talk title: New Phase Diagram for Black Holes and Strings on Cylinders
Abstract:
In the talk a new type of phase diagram for black holes and strings on cylinders is introduced. The phase diagram involves a new asymptotic quantity called the relative binding energy. Uniform and non-uniform string solutions are plotted in the diagram. Intersection rules for branches of solutions are deduced from a new Smarr formula. Possible scenarios for the phase structure of black holes/strings in the new phase diagram are discussed. Several other developments are mentioned: That any black hole/string solution on a cylinder can be written in the ansatz of hep-th/0204047, that it can be explicitly proven that any branch of solutions obey the first law of thermodynamcs, and that one can make an infinite number of copies of a given solution, giving a very rich phase diagram.
