Talk title: The Duality between IIB String Theory on PP-wave and N=4 SYM: a Status Report
Abstract:
The aim of this talk is to give an overview
of the duality between type IIB string theory on the maximally
supersymmetric PP-wave and the BMN sector of N=4 Super
Yang-Mills theory. As in any duality the goal is to build a complete
dictionary between the two descriptions. I will first introduce the
basic concepts of this duality and explain how free IIB strings
emerge on the gauge theory side. Then I will discuss various proposals
which generalize this relation to the full interacting theory. In
particular, I will describe the computational tools needed to derive,
on the one side, the 3-string vertex and, on the other side, the
conformal dimensions and the correlators of gauge theory
operators. The goal is to match the string and the field theory
computations: for each proposal, I will summarize the physical inputs,
the explicit tests and the open problems.
